On Sunday, September 6, the “Mag Ik Dan Bij Jou Tour” will take place for the second time in and around Utrecht: a 90-kilometer bike ride in which more than 90 participants will cycle for a good cause. The proceeds will go to families supported by the Princess Máxima Center, a partner of Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs in the fight against childhood cancer.
The ride starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Carlton President Hotel in Utrecht, with the starting signal given by King’s Commissioner Hans Oosters. Riding as a single peloton, escorted by motorcyclists and support vehicles, participants will cycle through Nieuwegein, Houten, Wijk bij Duurstede, Bunnik, De Bilt, Stichtse Vecht, and Zeist, with a coffee break along the way and lunch at the Dutch Childhood Cancer Association at Utrecht Science Park. The ride will conclude back at the starting point around 2:30 p.m.
That’s exactly what makes events like this so valuable: recreational cycling is used here to bring people together around a cause that really matters. Companies, individuals, and Dutch celebrities such as Steven Rooks, Hans van Breukelen, and Claudia de Breij ride side by side—not to set a record, but to support families struggling due to their child’s illness.
The “Mag Ik Dan Bij Jou” Foundation, founded in 2017 by Henk de Breij, provides financial assistance to families of children with cancer when they face financial difficulties—precisely at a time when all their attention should be focused on their sick child. The foundation works closely with the Princess Máxima Center. “We take away the financial worries associated with all those unforeseen costs that place an extra burden on parents of children with cancer,” says De Breij.
For Dutch Cycling Week, the “Mag Ik Dan Bij Jou” Tour is a great example of what cycling can mean beyond athletic achievement: a sense of connection, caring for one another, and a helping hand for those who need it.
